*IGGMC Nagpur observes World Hearing Day 2026 & celebrates 125 Cochlear Implants*
The Department of ENT at IGGMC kicked off the celebrations with the welcoming of the dignitaries & by lightning the lamp. Chief Guest Dr Deepak Shelokar NMC, Guest of Honour Dr Nivrutti Rathore civil surgeon Nagpur, Dr Ravi Chavan Dean iggmc Nagpur, Dr Nitin Shende Medical Superintendent, Dr PS Mundhada, Dr Jeevan Vedi Professor & Head ENT department IGGMC Nagpur led the program.
“Hearing is the foundation of a child’s education and social integration,” said the chief guest. “When we identify these issues in the ‘classroom’ phase, we aren’t just treating a medical condition; we are saving a future.”
Children benefitted by cochlear implant now leading normal life participated in various cultural activities.
Parents of the cochlear implantees expressed gratitude through tears of joy to district collector Dr. Vipin Itankar for his efforts in providing funds for repair & maintenance of the implants. Master Ali, a both ear cochlear implant recipient & a National swimmer, now preparing for competitive exams was thankful to the team of surgeons, audiologist, therapists & parents stood an inspiration to all in living a normal life.
Cochlear implant batteries were distributed by dignitaries under NMC & MJPJAY schemes.
Dr Nivrutti Rathore said, he will work to extend this benefit to the rural population, also he emphasised on Neonatal hearing screening by OAE initiated at District Hospital.
Dr Ravi Chavan Dean congratulated the department of ENT for the successful 125 cochlear implants at the 1st Government centre for cochlear implant i.e IGGMC. He also requested to Nagar Parishad authority in rural Nagpur to initiate such schemes under guidance of NMC to benefit the deaf children therein for cochlear implant surgeries.
Dr Jeevan Vedi urged the government bodies to expand the limits to extend the benefit to more deaf children. He obliged to the administration, NMC, MJPJAY now PMJAY, Dr Vaishali Shelgaonkar Head of Anaesthesia Department, Paediatrics Department, Radiology department, Psychiatry Department, Audiologists – Dr Ashish Diswal, Ishita Mandaviya, Neelu Somani, Nursing staff & entire team of ENT for this wonderful achievement.
