Joint Replacement Unit

The Joint Replacement Unit within the Department of Orthopedics at Indira Gandhi Government Medical College & Hospital (IGGMCH / Mayo Hospital) is a high-volume surgical facility in Central India.

Led by senior orthopedic faculty, the unit performs complex joint reconstructions and replacements, ensuring advanced orthopedic care is accessible to economically weaker sections.

Total & Partial Hip Replacements (THR/Bipolar)

Frequently performed for advanced osteoarthritis, trauma/fractures, and Avascular Necrosis (AVN)—which is widely prevalent in Central India due to high rates of Sickle Cell Disease.

Total Knee Replacements (TKR)

Offered for severe joint degeneration and debilitating knee arthritis.

Revision Joint Surgeries

Complex corrective surgeries for patients who experienced failure, infection, or wear-and-tear from implants fitted elsewhere.

Patients undergo initial screening, X-rays/MRI imaging, and pre-anesthetic checkups (PAC) before getting scheduled for elective replacement surgery.
