Casualty & Emergency Department
The Casualty & Emergency Department at Indira Gandhi Government Medical College & Hospital (IGGMCH / Mayo Hospital), Nagpur, operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Located near the main entrance on Central Avenue, it serves as the critical entry point for acute trauma, accident victims, and medical emergencies across Vidarbha and surrounding regions.

Operational Area
Occupies approximately 750 sq. ft. and is equipped with a dedicated 20-bed casualty area, divided into Medical Casualty and Surgical Casualty beds.
Trauma Unit
Directly linked to the on-site Trauma Center, featuring dedicated emergency operation theatres (Trauma OT) and intensive care beds.
Minor Operation Theatres
Includes 5 minor OTs — 2 in Surgical Casualty and 3 in Medicine Casualty — for immediate wound management, minor surgical interventions, and emergency suturing.
Patient Load
Manages an average of 300 emergency patients daily, handling both medico-legal cases (MLC) and non-MLC emergencies.
Medical & Emergency Equipment
The casualty unit is outfitted with essential equipment for immediate resuscitation and critical care.
Life Support
Crash carts, ventilators, defibrillators, central oxygen, and suction systems.
Diagnostic Access
Immediate round-the-clock access to emergency X-ray, ECG, ultra-sonography (FAST), CT scan, and MRI.
Support Services
Direct access to an operational 24/7 blood bank, clinical laboratory, and ambulance response.

A multidisciplinary team provides continuous emergency medical care and rapid patient management.
Clinical Team
Staffed 24/7 by Casualty Medical Officers (CMOs), resident doctors, anesthesiologists, surgeons, nursing staff, and technicians.
Medicolegal Services
Equipped to handle police intimation, post-mortem transfers via the adjacent Forensic Medicine & Mortuary block, and clinical forensic examinations.
Immediate Admission
Patients evaluated in casualty requiring critical care or surgery are registered and directly transferred to ICUs, SICUs, or surgical wards.
