NATCON 2019

Organising Committee of NATCON 2019 (National Tuberculosis and Chest Diseases Conference), held from 4th to 6th January 2019 at Nagpur, hosted by the Department of Respiratory Medicine, IGGMC Nagpur, in association with the Vidarbha Chest Association and the Tuberculosis Association of India.

2.World TB Day 2023 Activities (24th March 2023)

The Department of Respiratory Medicine, IGGMC Nagpur, actively observed World TB Day on 24th March 2023 by organizing a series of awareness and academic activities aimed at promoting understanding of tuberculosis among students and the public. A skit on tuberculosis awareness was performed by MBBS students, highlighting the importance of early diagnosis, treatment adherence, and stigma reduction. In addition, a painting competition was organized for MBBS, Nursing and postgraduate students, encouraging creative expression to spread awareness about TB and its prevention. Educational posters and awareness displays were exhibited in the OPD waiting area, engaging patients and visitors and reinforcing the message “Yes! We Can End TB.”

These activities reflect the department’s commitment to community engagement, medical education, and strengthening public awareness towards the elimination of tuberculosis.

3. World TB Day 2025 Activities (24th March 2025)

The Department of Respiratory Medicine, IGGMC Nagpur, observed World TB Day on 24th March 2025 by organizing a series of academic and awareness activities to promote understanding of tuberculosis among students and healthcare professionals.

A skit on tuberculosis awareness was performed by MBBS students, highlighting the importance of early diagnosis, treatment adherence, and stigma reduction. A painting competition was organized for MBBS, post graduate students and Nursing  students, encouraging creative expression to spread awareness about TB and its prevention. An interdepartmental postgraduate quiz competition was also conducted, fostering academic engagement and enhancing knowledge on tuberculosis among postgraduate students. These activities reflect the department’s commitment to medical education, interdisciplinary learning, and strengthening public awareness towards the elimination of tuberculosis.

4. A hands-on Lung Ultrasound Workshop titled “Ultrasonography for Pulmonologists” was conducted by the Department of Respiratory Medicine, IGGMC Nagpur, in collaboration with the Vidarbha Chest Association on 2nd November 2025.

4. Department participation in various academic activities

Dr. Radha P. Munje, Professor and Head, Department of Respiratory Medicine, was invited as a speaker and delivered a scientific lecture at TESCON 2025, held in Mumbai from 31st October to 2nd November 2025.

Department of Respiratory Medicine at APRC 2026, Bangkok

The Department of Respiratory Medicine participated in the Asia Pacific Region Conference of the International Union Against Tuberculosis and Lung Disease (APRC), 2026, Bangkok (4–7 February 2026). Dr. Gyanshankar Mishra, Associate Professor, presented an oral paper and a research poster. Poster presentations were also delivered by Dr. Ayush Bhutada and Dr. Akanksha Ratan, 3rd year junior residents, reflecting the department’s strong academic and research involvement at an international level.

The PRAMAN India study being presented at the Asia Pacific Region Conference of the International Union Against Tuberculosis and Lung Disease (APRC 2026), Bangkok, Thailand (5 February 2026) by Dr. Gyanshankar Mishra, reflecting its relevance to regional and international tuberculosis discourse.

Department Participation in Various Training activities under NTEP:

The faculties from the department of Respiratory Medicine routinely participate in various training activities for training the health care workers in public health department who are directly engaged in care of people with TB under the NTEP at the field level.

World TB Day 2026:

In alignment with the World TB Day 2026 theme, “Yes! We can end TB,” the Department of Respiratory Medicine at IGGMC, Nagpur organized a two-day programme (March 24–25, 2026) to strengthen efforts under NTEP and the Pradhan Mantri TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyan. Day 1 focused on academic orientation for postgraduate students, covering NTEP updates, TB history and management, Nikshay Portal utilization, Nikshay Mitra registration, and airborne infection control through a multidisciplinary approach. Day 2 emphasized advanced sensitization on TB preventive treatment (TPT) for household contacts of drug-resistant TB, including implementation protocols (HAaLT 2.0), IPC strategies, and adverse drug reaction monitoring, in collaboration with CDC and SHARE INDIA. The initiative successfully integrated academic learning with field-level practices, reinforcing the department’s role as a nodal center for TB elimination.
